Fans thoughts fom recent gigs

Well that was a fabulous night, the musicianship was incredible and I haven’t seen a band that well rehearsed in years. Full marks to the F.O.H. engineer for getting the volume in the room just right. The wonderful songs were played with respect and flare and brought all my memories back when I first discovered them in the seventies. Thank you chaps.

“Chester!! My goodness, we weren’t expecting such a brilliant, slick and well matched performance tonight. A masterpiece in iconic Sad Cafe music.”

“There was an amazing energy in the room and the appreciation from the crowd was very evident.

In short if you have any doubts about Sad Cafe still being the real deal don't worry, they are absolutely bang on form and on top of their game. Amazing night.”

“I was open minded to the newish line up, but never for one moment did I expect what I saw and heard. As tight and as high quality as I’ve seen from any band (and I’ve seen loads). Top quality from every single corner. I already thanked you all in person but lads that was truly awesome. Already onto booking tickets for Cardiff.”

“Great night last night at Alexander’s in Chester with Sad Cafe performing at their imperial best. When Paul Young was leading the band in the 70’s & 80’s, he was probably the best front man to any band apart from Mr Jagger. The Band rightly had a brilliant reputation of producing the very best live gigs. I can confirm that ‘Uncle Paul’ will be more than proud of the way Barry has filled the mighty boots of the outstanding Paul Young. Barry and the rest of the Band are so so tight and produce a really authentic Sad Cafe sound & experience.”

“Last night I heard 6 lads playing at the top of their game, a vocalist who whilst not being Paul Young was seriously damn close. I loved the keyboards that simply did not copy the original but added to them. If you get the chance to see them, go for it.”

“One of the best gigs we’ve had at the Riverhead Theatre for a long time. Looking forward to you coming back. Awesome show.”

“Sad Cafe are a band of superb musicians who approach entertaining with impressive diligence. They each perform powerfully, with tremendous expression yet no member is dominant. They work hard for each other and play at the top of their game; clearly enjoying playing in a first rate band. The songs are memorable and varied within the distinctive Sad Cafe style. Go and see them.”

“Absolutely fabulous concert by the boys!! Plus a meet & greet session afterwards, couldn’t have asked for more.”

“A fantastic band with a great catalogue of music. Saw them last night in Whitby and they were just ripping through their best songs with confidence and brilliance. Loved every minute and was transported back to Liverpool and Manchester in the late 70s /early 80s when I went to see them whenever I could. As good now as they were.”

“Thank you for a great concert last night. I was so impressed with the range of songs, tight musicianship & sheer effort that went into the performance. Wow, just brilliant, still buzzing.”

“Cast your minds back…. May 1979 - 19th to be precise…

A spotty 17 year old me taking a rather cute 15 year old girl (Jo) on a first date. To see no other than Sad Cafe at the Liverpool Empire.

The cheap seats of course - I was a poorly paid apprentice. The Empire was sold out. 2500 bums on seats.

The date went well - we both played our parts. Sad Cafe were excellent. Paul was incredible. Jo - my date - was impressed - but not just with the band!

I got a second date out of it. Then a third….

Fast forward 44 years to Chester and Alexander’s on a cold Thursday night. Not quite as busy as the Empire but every bit as impressive. More so in fact. A bit closer to the stage this time...!

The cute date is still with me, but now as my wife but still as pretty!

Thanks for a great evening gents - enjoyed every minute and would love to come see you again soon!“If you haven’t seen them but only heard about them, take the risk and buy a ticket. It’ll be money well spent if you enjoy great musicianship, great harmonies and great vocals. They may take you back to your teenage years if you’re old enough but if not… it’s just a great night out.”

“What a great gig.....and what a great band! I saw the original band in 78/79 and thought they where fantastic, but this band is as good. Great vocals Barry.....well done to you all. It was worth the journey from Liverpool.”

“Thank you for such a brilliant show. Absolutely loved it and privileged to be there. Just fantastic.”

“Many thanks for the most amazing gig in Selby and rekindling my youth  It was a showstopper from start to finish!”

“Thank you so much for a brilliant gig tonight in Selby. You were completely awesome.”

“Fantastic gig. Great music from an incredibly talented band. Brought back some great memories too.”
