Making Of Facades/Ideals

Home

The bands most successful album  'Facades' (anagram Sad Cafe -No 8 Album Charts,  No 3 Single Chart 'Everyday Hurts') and 'Misplaced Ideals'  which went silver but never achieved as much. Maybe we should have carried the 'anagram' idea further, (Deaf Sac, Safe Cad, Ace Fads, Face Ads etc)

Covers of  both albums designed by the infamous Sturm Thurgerson of 'Hipgnosis'. Responsible for all the amazing cover art work of the 70s/80s for classic bands like Floyd, Wings, etc. 'Ideals' was made by an Hollywood special effects company who were involved in the 'Superman' pictures and was VERY expensive, as was the 'Shooting Cocktail Glasses' picture on the next album cover. It was taken off the shelves in stores like WH Smith as it was supposed to be frightening passing punters and their children. I also remember seeing it on the corner shop wall in an episode of 'Coronation Street'. The record company withdrew it and changed the cover to an exact opposite banal picture; (a family on a beach with an alsation. I wonder who got a pay rise on that one!) . This screwing about virtually stiffed the album and wasted a lot of the bands income (yes of course, everything on the bands bill folks. Surprise!). Yet another management/record company exec that stifled the bands  progress.

'Everyday Hurts' was the biggest selling single of 1979 and still didn't make it to No:1 !! Lena Martell single 'One day at a time Sweet Jesus'  (Yawn) pipped it (Explain That Conspiracy Theorists Please!!)
